Helping With Illinois Orders Of Protection

Domestic violence can include acts of physical violence as well as threats, harassment, intimidation and any attempt to interfere with personal liberty. In order to qualify as domestic violence, the parties must be married or ex-spouses, in a dating or former dating relationship, have a child in common, live or lived together, or be related by blood or marriage.

Our family law firm can help you acquire orders of protection in the event you are under threat of domestic violence. The types of orders of protection you can obtain are:

  • Emergency order of protection: Offers immediate protection from violence. This order can last from 14 to 21 days and offers protection until a court can decide if any more permanent restraining order is needed.
  • Interim order of protection: If there is a lapse between the emergency order of protection and the plenary order of protection, an interim order of protection may be needed.
  • Plenary order of protection: This type of restraining order is issued after a court hearing, and can last up to two years and be renewed if necessary.

Defending Against Orders Of Protection

If you have been accused of domestic abuse, it is important to proactively protect your rights. You could be barred from entering your own home. You could lose the right to own a firearm. You could even lose visitation or custody rights over your children.

We provide aggressive legal representation in the civil proceedings relating to domestic violence. We represent people accused of domestic violence and those who have orders of protection against them.
