Getting married is a huge decision that requires a lot of thought. Typically, couples tie the knot with the genuine intention of being together for the rest of their lives. Unfortunately, things don’t always work out this way.
While it’s normal for couples to have their ups and downs, there are some issues that can cause more terminal damage to the relationship. Your marriage could be in trouble if you’ve experienced any of the following factors.
A lack of conflict
Although it may sound strange to say, a lack of conflict could actually be a worse sign for your marriage than arguing. All couples have arguments and obstacles that they have to overcome. How they reach a resolution indicates how strong the relationship is. If your spouse has a lack of interest in resolving an outstanding issue, or you feel that way, it could be a sign that the marriage is in trouble.
Financial infidelity
When a couple joins hands in marriage they are agreeing to share their lives together. This typically includes their finances. Perhaps you and your spouse decided that you would open up a shared checking account so that you could both monitor savings as well as monthly spending. Recently, there’s been a huge withdrawal of cash and your spouse has not discussed it with you. Or, worse than that, you may have been locked out of the joint account altogether. Financial infidelity is one of the biggest marriage killers.
Disputes among spouses are common but if these cannot be resolved then your marriage could be in trouble. If you’ve been having long-term issues then you may need to start thinking about protecting yourself. Seek some legal guidance to find out more about your options in the event of a divorce.
